Trauma Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities: Provide careful nursing interventions in emergency situations. Triage patients and evaluate the severity of the patient's injuries. Provide IV insertion, intubation, medicine administration, blood drawing, and many other medical procedures. Prepare patients for surgery or diagnostic testing.


 Salary: $66,220

 Education: The most common route is acquiring an RN degree along with a bachelor degree, and then earning a certification program in trauma nursing.

 Demand or Need for Profession: Trauma nurses must also be skilled at a variety of nursing tasks, from starting IV's, to monitoring heart rhythms, to recognizing changes in a patient's acuity (how severe the patient's illness/injury is) and intervening as appropriate. They must be competent, empathetic, resilient, decisive and dedicated.

Reflection: This career does interest me because you get to help people who are injured. You also get to do diagnostics and test on patients. I believe this is a good job for me.
